Vernon Monger and the Tempe Center for the Arts

Vernon Monger, ‘73 Construction Management, has embarked on many large scale construction projects, using his natural eye for detail and design to achieve astonishing results.

Vernon is a distinguished project manager for Okland Construction, based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Currently, Vernon’s project finds him residing in Tempe, Ariz., where he is the chief project manager for the new Tempe Center for the Arts.

Okland Construction is a private third-generation family-owned company.Vernon Monger in the Tempe Center for the Arts The company also has smaller divisions located in Tempe and Durango, Colo. The company’s mission is to “build a higher standard,” and constantly strives to innovate and keep up with the expanding world of technology.

The Tempe Center for the Arts is truly a piece of contemporary artwork in itself, boasting a modern and bold design. The building displays unique features, including dramatic angles, roof lines, and circular concrete footings.

Every room inside the center is unique. Monger remarked, “This project doesn’t have one square inch that’s the same.”

An intricate geometric design made of concrete is part of the ceiling beam construction inside the performance theater. A vast concrete latticework, consisting of geometric patterns of solid concrete hangs above the seats. Vernon custom designed and constructed the extraordinary work that is the best definition of “form” meeting “function.”

Tempe Center for the ArtsThis 88,000 square foot facility will house a 600-seat proscenium theater, a 200 seat studio theater, and 3,500 square feet of gallery presentation space. In total, the project features 17 acres of landscape including a reflecting pool, a park, and walking paths on the shore of the Tempe Town Lake.
